Establish a connection with the server by opening the OpenVPN files. Login then the connection will be established. You will receive a notification it is successful. After the connection has been created, you will see the name of the server and a newly assigned IP address.  

Ensure the connection is okay by testing it. If you are connected to the server, everything is okay, and you can disconnect before moving to the next step. 

5. Check the settings 

There are basically no significant changes to make in the settings. What you can do, however, is to check the settings to ensure the OpenVPN will open automatically any time you open your device. You can also turn off notifications. 

If you are tech-savvy, you can go to advanced settings to see the commands in place. For this, you have to open the OVPN files. You can also access the manual to get guidance on navigating the application, such as blocking DNS leaks. 

How to Setup OpenVPN on Mac OS 

It is important to note that the only way to connect OpenVPN with MacOS is by installing an Access Client App. 

  1. Download the Tunnelblick Access Client App and install it. 
  2. Once the installation is complete, open the Access Client App and launch it. 
  3. You will be prompted to respond whether you have OpenVPN configuration files. Select the “I have configuration file” and click “Okay.” 
  4. Download OpenVPN configuration files from your VPN provider’s website. Right-click on the downloaded files and select “Open With,” and select the Access Client App you installed.  
  5. Select the server you want to connect to and log in using your VPN credentials. Through your Access Client App, you can add or delete a connection. After connecting, OpenVPN will remain active unless you disconnect it.
